Bill Forever.

When I was first exposed to Bill Hicks, many years ago, i was blown away. Here is a man so alive, so angry, so observant, it instantly and permanently influenced me in ways nothing has since. I write about him today in recent release of the documentary American: The Bill Hicks Story, a captivating journey through the laughter and demons that made, and in some respects broke, his career. If you are not so familiar with his comedy, or indeed his philosophical retorts to our modern society, then my recommendations in seeing this film can not come highly enough.

I shall leave you with a short video of a wonderfully funny, yet undeniably poignant favourite of mine...

Dollar Bills

Aloe Blacc has burst into the spot light in recent months seemingly out of nowhere, although this is far from the case. A heavily seasoned veteran (of still relative youth) amongst the L.A. soul and jazz scene, this amazing musician is reviving the genres with a well overdue comeback. It is rare to find someone of such musical conviction and talent, but Aloe just shines with the stuff.

The bluesy, toe-tapping rhythms of 'I Need A Dollar' have been circling for a while now, and i challenge you to find a more perfect track for the season. That brass'n'bass is motown all over again... Pure class.

Still Flying Over.

It is exactly 9 years ago today that author Ken Kesey passed away. His widely famous book 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' still resonates amongst the walls of social understanding today, a haunting reminder of the repression inherent of our own existence.

Let's never forget it. Let's always challenge it.

Never Obsolete.

What better way to start this whole sh-bang off, than with a glittering, ethereal little remix from Mount Kimbie. Giving Andreya Triana's beautiful 'A Town Called Obsolete' the once over with a smooth, white noise-ridden R&B make over, this track will do wonders for you... Enjoy.
